Title: The Ashokan Rail Trail
Description: The 11.5 mile long Ashokan Rail Trail features the 75’ long Butternut Creek Bridge, the 360’ long Boiceville Bridge, and a 525’ long boardwalk. Owned and operated by Ulster County, the Ashokan Rail Trail provides recreational opportunities such as walking, running and cycling access along the northern shore of the Ashokan Reservoir. The new trail is built upon the footprint of the Ulster & Delaware Railroad Corridor, which was inactive for over 40 years before the trail was built. The Ashokan Reservoir is a terminal water supply reservoir for New York City and is owned and operated by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. The new trail provides convenient parking facilities and an ADA compliant trail surface to access the magnificent views of the Ashokan Reservoir and the Catskill Mountains. With the project now approaching 200,000 visitors since opening in October of 2019, the trail is becoming one of the main attractions to Ulster County.
