Dewberry wins Land Conservation Award

Fairfax, Va. — Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, was recognized with a 2016 Land Conservation Award in the Large Commercial category from Fairfax County, Va., for its site/civil engineering and land planning development and design work on Innovation Center South for Rocks Engineering Company. This transit-oriented, high-density, mixed-use development aims to create a vibrant community where people can live, work, learn, and play, while leading to better connectivity between activity centers from Loudoun County, Va., to Washington, D.C.

The 15-acre site in Herndon will include an urban streetscape, seven high-rise buildings with 3,250 parking garage spaces, and an eight-level, 2,100-space parking garage for the county. The property will also have urban transit features, such as bus bays, kiss and ride spaces, taxi stands, motorcycle spaces, bike lanes, and more than 500 bike parking spaces. Sustainable features include electric vehicle charging stations, rain gardens throughout the community parks, LED street lights, and rainwater harvesting. Portions of the project are currently under construction with an expected opening of spring 2019.

The Land Conservation Award Program recognizes the outstanding efforts made by a project team in employing responsible land disturbance techniques and good construction practices to protect the properties and resources of Fairfax County.
