Conference program available for International LiDAR Mapping Forum

NEW ORLEANS — The International LiDAR Mapping Forum (ILMF) is a premier event for the Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) industry attracting professionals from around the world with the next event scheduled for Feb. 7-9, 2011, in New Orleans.

From a record number of abstracts submitted by international experts, the ILMF Technical Committee has organized a wide-ranging conference program of 34 technical papers focusing on the commercial and technical issues facing the industry. There will be work-in progress reports on all aspects of Airborne LiDAR, Bathymetry LiDAR, and Mobile Mapping.
The ILMF conference agenda will be delivered by representatives of the major global LiDAR system manufacturers, service providers, and government and national user organizations. Technical papers include examination of the latest developments in LiDAR technology and reports on recent international projects. These reflect the increasing use of LiDAR for fast, high-resolution, and cost-effective data gathering in map making for urban areas, rural asset management, highways, railroads, and along flood plains and the coastal zone.

The expanded Mobile Mapping session at ILMF reflects the step-change taking place in the mapping of urban areas, highways, and railroads. With new technologies and techniques rapidly becoming available, professionals involved in urban mapping and managing street asset inventories are able to achieve their objectives in a fraction of the time and at greater accuracy than traditional methods. Applications for the data include 3D maps, advanced driver assistance systems, and vehicle fleet management. Reflecting the growing importance of this powerful market driver to new mapping applications, the keynote address to the conference is focused on mobile mapping.
