Chinese engineering society endorses Vision for Civil Engineering in 2025

RESTON, VA. — The China Civil Engineering Society (CCES), supported by the China Association of Science and Technology, has endorsed The Vision for Civil Engineering in 2025 — an American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)-initiated vision for the future of the civil engineering profession.

The ASCE-published report, The Vision for Civil Engineering in 2025, redefines what it will mean to be a civil engineer in the world of the future. It represents the collective wisdom of more than 60 experts from the world and presents a vision for what the future can and should be, said the ASCE.

The more recent ASCE report Achieving the Vision for Civil Engineering in 2025: A Roadmap for the Profession represents the culmination of almost eight years of effort related to Vision 2025 and outlines what the profession must do to achieve these goals.

The endorsement ceremony was held on May 25, 2010 in the building of the Chinese Ministry of Construction in Beijing. CCES President Tan Qinglian and ASCE President Blaine D. Leonard, P.E., D.GE, F.ASCE, signed the document on behalf of the two societies, which agreed to work together on achieving the vision.

In addition to signing the endorsement, ASCE President Blaine D. Leonard spoke about collaboration between the United States and China, as well as efforts to create a sustainable world and enhance the global quality of life, at the International Forum on Development of High-Tech Enterprises at the 13th Annual China High Technology Exposition and Conference (CHITEC) in Beijing.

"I’m very pleased to have had CCES endorse the vision for the future of civil engineering. I’m also extremely appreciative to have had the opportunity to share our vision at this international event," Leonard said.
