BIM, IPD among key issues to be addressed at CMAA conference

MCLEAN, VA. — Lean, LEED, BIM, IPD, Mega-Programs…These are the buzzwords widely used throughout the CM/PM industry each day — and are among the key topics to be discussed at the 2010 CMAA National Conference and Trade Show taking place Oct. 3-5, in San Diego.

More than 800 CM practitioners and owners are expected to attend the Association’s flagship event this year to learn what’s driving the market and sharpen their knowledge and skills for a prosperous future.

The professional education program will offer more than 35 informative, timely sessions organized into four tracks: Project Execution, Strategy, Sustainability, and Technology. Attendees will hear from both owner organizations and CM service firms. Some of the valuable sessions include:

• How Owners Should Qualify Construction Contractors Laying a Claim to Being “Lean” presented by Los Angeles Unified School District and Jacobs;
• Green Infrastructure: From Concept to Construction presented by MTA New York City Transit Authority, Anne Arundel Community College, Primera Engineers Ltd., The McKissack Group Inc., and Integrated Project Management LLC;
• Partnering for Success: A Case Study for Integrated Project Delivery presented by Catholic Healthcare West, Harris & Associates, and RBB Architects;
• Using Web-Based Collaborative Tools to Successfully Manage a $2.4 Billion Wastewater Capital Improvement Program presented by Orange County Sanitation District and Parsons;
• Eating an Elephant — Techniques for Executing a Mega-Program presented by National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, US Army Corps of Engineers, and McDonough Bolyard Peck Inc.; and
• Front End Planning for Infrastructure Projects — Project Definition Rating Index (PDRI) Special Construction Industry Institute Session presented by Arizona State University, US Architect of the Capitol, CSA Group, and Worley Parsons.

CMAA also will conduct two, pre-conference workshops on Saturday, Oct. 2 on LEED Green Associate and Claims Avoidance.
