ASCE seeks comment on professional standard

RESTON, Va. – ASCE will conduct a public comment period on the update to ASCE 10 Design of Latticed Steel Transmission Structures. The public comment period will be held from July 22, 2013 through Sept. 1, 2013.

This standard practice covers the specific requirements for the design, fabrication, and testing of members and connections for electrical transmission structures. These requirements are applicable to hot-rolled and cold-formed steel shapes. Structure components (members, connections, guys) are selected to resist design factored loads at stresses approaching yielding, buckling, fracture, or any other limiting condition specified in this standard.

In addition, analysis techniques are outlined in this standard for geometrical configurations presently in use. Connection design procedures allow the design engineer to match connection capability to the most suitable end and edge distances for detailing.

The ASCE Design of Steel Transmission Towers Standards Committee has proposed 26 changes to the existing standard. This effort marks the first revision of the standard since 1997. The standard was originally published in 1990.
