ASCE announces public comment period for updated standard

RESTON, VA. — The American Society of Civil Engineers’ Structural Engineering Institute (ASCE/SEI) announced it will conduct a public comment period on revisions to an existing standard, Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures. The public comment period will be held from Jan. 1, 2013 through Feb. 15, 2013.

The standard identifies provisions for determining the minimum design loads for dead, live, soil, flood, wind, snow and earthquake loads, combinations of these loads, and other general requirements. It is designed to assist building code and regulatory committees, architects, structural engineers and those engaged in preparing and administering local building codes. Supplement 1 addresses revising issues deemed critical to the standard based on new technical information and updating editions of other referenced standards.

To participate in the public comment period, contact James Neckel, ASCE Codes & Standards coordinator at jneckel@asce.org or 703-295-6176.
