AECOM awarded contract for Deep Rock Tunnel Connection project in Indianapolis

 LOS ANGELES — AECOM Technology Corporation was awarded a $25 million contract from the city of Indianapolis to provide construction management services for the $280 million Deep Rock Tunnel Connection (DRTC) and dewatering pump station in Indianapolis. This contract is the initial phase of the city’s Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Long-Term Control Plan, which is one of the largest sewer system investments made by Citizens Energy Group, an Indianapolis-based utility company. In late August, Indianapolis sold the wastewater utility assets to Citizens Energy Group.

Once complete, the DRTC will provide a portion of the CSO storage, collect major sewer overflows, and provide future connections to other tunnels. The main tunnel consists of approximately 41,600 feet of an 18-foot-diameter tunnel at a depth of 230 feet. The downstream dewatering pump station has a discharge capacity of 90 million gallons per day (mgd) and an installed capacity of 120 mgd, which discharges to the Southport Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility.

The project is slated for completion during 2017.
