ACEC/NC awards Grand Award for Engineering excellence to Florence & Hutcheson Consulting Engineers

RALEIGH, N.C. — Florence & Hutcheson (F&H) received a Grand Award for Engineering Excellence from the American Council of Engineering Companies of North Carolina (ACEC/NC) for their work on the Bryan Boulevard Relocation at Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTIA).

The design included a new entrance interchange at PTIA incorporating full access between three intersecting roadways logistically providing access for three separate interchanges at one physical location. The interchange has four bridges and 11 different ramp alignments along a new 2.7 mile stretch of Bryan Boulevard. The project took four years to complete and cost approximately $52 million.

According to Kevin Baker, assistant director of the Piedsmont Triad Airport Authority, this highly complex project was one of the most critical aspects of the airport’s overall expansion to land the giant economic catalyst for the region – the one million square foot Mid-Atlantic FedEx Hub.

“Florence & Hutcheson successfully completed the work on an accelerated schedule to ensure that the overall airport construction program remained on schedule,” Baker said. “Their performance in coordinating every detail of the project between multiple stakeholders, particularly PTIA and the North Carolina Department of Transportation, was outstanding.”

“Being recognized by ACEC/NC at any level is a great honor,” said Warren Lamb, executive vice president and group leader of F&H’s Raleigh operations.
