20th annual public-private partnerships event

The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) will host its 20th Annual Public-Private Ventures (PPV) in Transportation Conference, Sept. 15-16, 2008, in Washington, D.C., at the Hilton Washington Hotel. With a changing political landscape, ARTBA says a number of important questions will be addressed during the two-day event: How will a new Administration and new Congress address transportation financing? What role will public-private partnerships (P3s) play in next year’s important rewrite of the federal surface transportation law? What’s happening in state legislatures on transportation financing choices?

More than 320 professionals from federal and state governments, financial institutions, and transportation design and construction firms attended last year’s event, ARTBA said. The PPV in Transportation Conference targets engineers; contractors; transportation officials from federal, state, and local governments; investment bankers; lawyers; professionals from brokerage firms; developers; journalists; and educators.

Key sessions include the following:

  • drafting policy to protect the public interest;
  • articulating P3 value to the public;
  • the value of risk transfer;
  • pension funds as investors;
  • emerging P3 markets, including the potential from a federal Critical Commerce Corridors (3C) initiative;
  • case studies from across the United States; and
  • mode-specific PPV issues for roads, highways, airports, and public transportation.
