Westwood acquires Coursen-Koehler

San Antonio, Texas — Westwood Professional Services Inc., a top-ten ranked engineering and surveying firm by Zweig Group and POB Magazine, completed the acquisition of San Antonio, Texas-based civil engineering firm, Coursen-Koehler Engineering & Associates. Zweig Group facilitated the transaction.

Coursen-Koehler was established by Kerry J. Koehler, P.E., and Garth E. Coursen, P.E., in 2008. The two were able to grow the firm rapidly despite challenging economic conditions. They credit their success to a strong culture and team, delivering quality products and services to land developers, land owners, builders, architects, utility providers, and municipalities throughout the San Antonio area. Coursen-Koehler has provided full-service engineering on many San Antonio residential housing developments; medical, office, industrial, and institutional facilities; and municipal projects.

Westwood is a multidisciplined surveying and engineering firm serving clients across the nation in multiple markets. The acquisition expands Westwood’s land development operations in Texas and brings Coursen-Koehler’s clients added resources and unique services to complete their projects.

“I am excited about our decision to join Westwood. The acquisition will enable us to better serve our residential and commercial clients with more resources, in-house services, and unique qualifications from across the country; and our staff will benefit by having new opportunities to work in different markets and geographic locations,” Coursen said, referring to Westwood’s wind, solar, power delivery, and oil, gas, and pipeline markets.

The firm’s vice president of the land division, Bryan P. Powell, P.E., looks forward to working with the team from Coursen-Koehler to expand on their already successful business in the area. He said, “We have built a strong team in our Dallas-Fort Worth office and have been working on some great projects as a result. Coursen-Koehler is another huge step forward in establishing our presence in southern Texas and across the region.”

The Coursen-Koehler team will be operating as Coursen-Koehler Engineering & Associates, a division of Westwood.
