AEC TECH NEWS: FINLEY updates software platform to SOFiSTiK and Autodesk

FINLEY Engineering Group recently implemented SOFiSTiK, a seamless BIM workflow for structural engineering. All necessary steps from modeling through to generating reinforcement sheets for civil and structural engineering projects can be carried out using a smart data transfer between Autodesk and SOFiStiK software.

AEC TECH NEWS: Autodesk leads project to digitally preserve ancient city of Volterra

Autodesk, Case Technologies, and the Volterra-Detroit Foundation led a two-week project to 3D scan key historical and archaeological sites in the ancient city of Volterra in Italy. An international team of architects, engineers, historians and students used innovative technologies including drones, photogrammetry, and laser scanning reality capture techniques, together with Autodesk ReCap 360 software, to digitally record the city’s buildings, roads and artefacts.

Trimble entered into a definitive agreement to acquire privately held Building Data based in Rocklin, Calif. Building Data’s managed content and software solutions enable Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) contractors and engineers to produce intelligent, constructible models by including manufacturing-specific content from a proprietary database of over 6 million 3D data components.

Autodesk announces AEC Excellence Awards finalists

Bentley Institute and Rutgers University collaborate on Hurricane Sandy research

Bentley Fellow Dr. Zheng Yi Wu and a team from Rutgers University jointly published a paper, Analysis of Dominant Factors Associated with Hurricane Damages to Residential Structures Using the Rough Set Theory, in the March 29, 2016 issue of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) journal Natural Hazards Review. The research leveraged data collected from advanced remote sensing technologies.

AEC TECH NEWS: Pinellas County signs Woolpert to $6.5 million software implementation deal

Pinellas County, Fla., hired Woolpert to implement Cityworks software and develop a comprehensive enterprise asset management (EAM) program. The $6.5 million, multiyear contract includes the development of an asset management program, software installation and configuration, enterprise system integrations and deployment to all divisions that manage county infrastructure assets.
