AEC TECH NEWS: Autodesk leads project to digitally preserve ancient city of Volterra

Autodesk, Case Technologies, and the Volterra-Detroit Foundation led a two-week project to 3D scan key historical and archaeological sites in the ancient city of Volterra in Italy. An international team of architects, engineers, historians and students used innovative technologies including drones, photogrammetry, and laser scanning reality capture techniques, together with Autodesk ReCap 360 software, to digitally record the city’s buildings, roads and artefacts.

Trimble entered into a definitive agreement to acquire privately held Building Data based in Rocklin, Calif. Building Data’s managed content and software solutions enable Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) contractors and engineers to produce intelligent, constructible models by including manufacturing-specific content from a proprietary database of over 6 million 3D data components.

AEC TECH NEWS: Bentley’s OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition advances roadway projects from conception through construction

At its Year in Infrastructure 2016 Conference, Bentley Systems, Incorporated announced that OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition will be available for Early Access on Dec. 1, 2016. OpenRoads CONNECT Edition is the successor to Bentley’s civil engineering brands InRoads, GEOPAK, MX, and PowerCivil.

DBM Global acquires steel detailing and BIM firms

HC2 Holdings, Inc., a diversified holding company, announced that its operating subsidiary DBM Global Inc., a family of companies providing fully integrated structural and steel construction services, has entered into an agreement to acquire the detailing and Building Information Modeling (BIM) management business of PDC Global Pty Ltd., a global engineering design, detailing and 3D BIM management company.
