Bentley Systems’ new AssetWise CONNECT Edition (introduced at the Year in Infrastructure 2016 conference) and ProjectWise CONNECT Edition (introduced at Year in Infrastructure 2015) leverage Microsoft’s Azure cloud services to advance beyond common data environments to connected data environments.

AEC TECH NEWS: Trimble to acquire Building Data to expand constructible model and BIM content offering

Trimble entered into a definitive agreement to acquire privately held Building Data based in Rocklin, Calif. Building Data’s managed content and software solutions enable Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) contractors and engineers to produce intelligent, constructible models by including manufacturing-specific content from a proprietary database of over 6 million 3D data components.

AEC TECH NEWS: Bentley’s OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition advances roadway projects from conception through construction

At its Year in Infrastructure 2016 Conference, Bentley Systems, Incorporated announced that OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition will be available for Early Access on Dec. 1, 2016. OpenRoads CONNECT Edition is the successor to Bentley’s civil engineering brands InRoads, GEOPAK, MX, and PowerCivil.

AEC TECH NEWS: Senet and Trimble deliver a scalable network of wireless IoT sensors for water monitoring applications

Senet, the first and only North American provider of public, low-power, wide-area networks (LPWANs) for long range-based (LoRa-based) Internet of Things (IoT) applications, announced that Trimble is leveraging its wireless technology to enable water utilities to remotely measure and monitor water, wastewater and groundwater systems.

Purdue alumnus develops technology to improve efficiency at construction sites

Joseph Louis, who recently earned a doctorate in civil engineering from Purdue’s Lyles School of Civil Engineering, used technology he was working on while he was pursuing the degree to co-found SAMCRO Technologies LLC. The company is working to license technology that combines pre-existing sensors on equipment at a construction site with an operational model of the site.

AEC TECH NEWS: Sentera signs North American Distribution Agreement with Dynamic UAV Solutions

Sentera, LLC, a global provider of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), sensors, and data management platforms, signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Dynamic UAV Solutions North America, LLC, a new distributor in the commercial UAV space for the mapping, construction, survey, and agricultural, inspection, mining, public safety, and landfill industries.

AEC TECH NEWS: Pinellas County signs Woolpert to $6.5 million software implementation deal

Pinellas County, Fla., hired Woolpert to implement Cityworks software and develop a comprehensive enterprise asset management (EAM) program. The $6.5 million, multiyear contract includes the development of an asset management program, software installation and configuration, enterprise system integrations and deployment to all divisions that manage county infrastructure assets.

AEC TECH NEWS: New FAA rules for small UAS go into effect

Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Michael Huerta announced the implementation of the first operational rules for routine non-hobbyist use of small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS or drones). The regulations officially took effect on Aug. 29, 2016.

AEC TECH NEWS: Applying for a waiver under the new drone rules

The Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) new small drone rule effective August 29 formally known as Part 107 allows for some expanded operations based on technology mitigations if you can make the safety case for a waiver of some provisions. Operators can apply for waivers to operate at night, beyond line of sight, above 400 feet and other specific types of operation.

AEC TECH NEWS: Datacomp offers 3D model viewer

BIM Vision is a freeware IFC model viewer. It allows users to view virtual models coming from 3D CAD systems (e.g. Revit, Archicad, Advance, DDS CAD, Tekla, Nemetschek VectorWorks, Bentley, and others) without the commercial licenses of these systems or a particular vendors viewer.

AEC TECH NEWS: Marquette Universitys Smart Building provides a real-world look at concepts in action

Integrated Test & Measurement, a provider of structural test and measurement engineering software and services, announced a Smart Building program in partnership with Marquette University. Hexagon AB announced the acquisition of NESTIX Oy, a developer of production control solutions for the fabrication of pipes and structures used in heavy industry construction such as skyscrapers, large dams, ships, and offshore facilities.

Autodesk introduced an expanded AEC Excellence Awards. First introduced in 2012 to recognize BIM in Infrastructure projects, this years competition now includes Building and Construction categories and will showcase innovative and connected BIM technology use.

AEC TECH NEWS: Autodesk unveils AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 and latest InfraWorks 360

Autodesk released Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 and the latest version of Autodesk InfraWorks 360 software. Together, InfraWorks 360 and Civil 3D represent Autodesks Building Information Modeling (BIM) for Infrastructure solution enabling civil infrastructure professionals to transition from a traditional CAD-based design practice to a BIM process-based approach.

AEC TECH NEWS: Autodesk releases Revit 2017

Autodesk announced several new and enhanced features for its flagship Revit software designed to increase software performance and help users better model and communicate design intent. Available starting April 18, 2016, Autodesk Revit 2017 software is the latest version of its software purpose-built for BIM.
