New roles

The February issue of CE News marks the start of its 22nd year in publication. From its humble beginnings as a small newspaper, the magazine has developed into a robust brand with a monthly print magazine, weekly e-newsletter, comprehensive website, webcasts, Professional Development Series articles, and events. The changes since I began my position as editor in 1999 are significant.

And it’s time for another change. As of next month, Editor Bob Drake will be the face you see each month and hear from in this Comment. He’s worked on CE News since 2004, and during the last year has become fully responsible for the content of the magazine, as my time was needed in other areas of the business. I’m excited for CE News’ audience to hear a new voice in this column, and Bob will surely deliver superbly written, interesting commentary for you.

My role is changing significantly as well; I’ve made the decision to resign from Stagnito Media and become a full-time mother. This is not a decision I’ve come to easily, as my post with CE News is truly my professional dream job, but being a full-time mom is certainly a dream come true too.

I’ve been so fortunate to meet and correspond with amazing people in my position these 11-plus years at CE News. I’ve had the privilege of attending numerous conferences and events that have exposed me to the most progressive people, products, software, and ideas impacting our profession. I’ve had the ability to give back to my profession on a daily basis, something that has brought me immense personal satisfaction. I’ve had the freedom to think of an idea that would impact thousands of people and execute it, which is empowering, motivating, and rewarding.

I’ve also had the wonderful experience of working for so many years with Bob. We have been an exemplary team, as our skills, strengths, and personalities complement one another extraordinarily. My decision to leave would be so much more difficult if I didn’t feel I was leaving CE News in such capable hands.

So to you, our readers, I wish to express my sincere thanks for reading and participating in the events, surveys, ranking programs, and other initiatives we do. Your interest in our work has inspired and motivated me, and I have learned so much along the way. I hope I’ve done the same for you.

Shanon Fauerbach, P.E.,
