AEC TECH NEWS: Innovyze releases InfoWorks ICM Generation V7.0

Broomfield, Colo. — Innovyze released V7.0 Generation of InfoWorks ICM, its urban drainage modeling solution used for integrated river, sewer and overland flow modeling.

A hallmark of InfoWorks ICM is its dynamic integration of one-dimensional (1D) hydrodynamic simulation of flows in rivers, open channels and pipe networks and two-dimensional (2D) hydrodynamic simulation of surface flooding in the urban environment and river floodplain. The combination, achieved through an efficient coupling of 1D and 2D flow equations, provides a solution for simultaneously modeling belowground and aboveground elements of catchments to accurately represent all flow paths, enabling true integrated river, sewer and overland flow dynamic modeling, the company said. The software also takes interactions of natural and man-made environments into account, and simulates the impact of polluting runoff and effluent from urban areas on water quality.

InfoWorks ICM V7.0 further extends the software’s water quality modeling capabilities with the simulation of 1D diffusion of user-selected determinates along pre-determined links (river reaches, bridge expansion and contraction, channels and conduits). Diffusion can be simulated based on estuary or river conditions. The 2D simulation also now supports built-in and user-defined water quality processes as well as water quality decay pollutants.

The choice of runoff routing models, which determines how quickly rainfall enters the drainage system from a catchment, has also been extended to include the Clark routing model, which uses the Clark unit hydrograph method. Key additional improvements include the ability to read alphanumeric time series data; direct accessibility to geocoding addresses; user-definable conveyance data to be specified for river reaches; horizontal scrolling in long section views; support for Esri ArcGIS 10.4; and more than 25% gain in computational speed, allowing users to focus on engineering goals with minimal distraction. In addition, runoff and ground water in subcatchments can now drain to different nodes, and SQL expressions can be added to TVD connectors.

“InfoWorks ICM gives engineering professionals the most advanced and comprehensive toolset for planning, designing, operating and sustaining safe and resilient drainage systems that protect public health and our waterways.” said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D., BCEEM, Hon.D.WRE, Dist.D.NE, Dist.M.ASCE, NAE, President, COO and Chief Innovation Officer of Innovyze. “V7.0 builds on the foundation of previous InfoWorks ICM releases, addressing user feedback by incorporating valuable new capabilities that will create a significant competitive advantage by making it easier and faster to optimize urban and river catchments. With each successive release, InfoWorks ICM evolves to meet our customers’ growing requirements, reinforcing its position as the industry-leading solution for urban and rural catchment modeling.”
