ACI eLearning enables concrete training

Farmington Hills, Mich.—The American Concrete Institute (ACI), in partnership with Elsevier, Inc., announced the launch of its new online training program, ACI eLearning. Through ACI eLearning, concrete industry professionals have the opportunity to participate in widely-respected ACI training programs on a variety of industry-critical topics and to earn CEUs online.

Currently, participants have the opportunity to participate in the ACI Certification training programs for Concrete Field Testing Technician—Grade I. Another program for Concrete Strength Testing Technician will be available soon. Both courses include practice exams, demonstration videos of all tests covered in these two ACI Certification programs, and a final assessment test of overall knowledge of the ASTM Standards covered in each module. Participants can access the training programs and their resources as needed, and a training acknowledgement document will be issued by ACI. Each of these courses include multiple modules to provide the resources and tools necessary to prepare individuals for the in-person written and performance examinations required to receive ACI Certification.

Participants who register for ACI eLearning will be provided all the valuable information and quality experiences synonymous with ACI’s traditional and in-house seminars. Additional eLearning topics may include: Why Concrete Tests are Important for Quality Concrete Construction, Slab Design, Slab Construction, Anchorage for Concrete, Cracking in Concrete, Repair of Deteriorated Concrete, and Formwork for Concrete. By 2011, ACI plans to launch eLearning courses covering up to 70 instructional modules. Significant discounts are available to ACI members.

"ACI has always been dedicated to providing the concrete industry with top-notch opportunities for training and earning CEUs," said Richard F. Heitzmann, managing director of career and professional development at ACI. "With the launch of ACI eLearning, individuals are able to complete ACI training at their own pace, on their own schedule, in their home or office—or anywhere there is an Internet connection. Plus, online availability allows ACI to cost-effectively offer industry-leading education programs globally."

"We at Elsevier eLearning are excited to enter into this close partnership with ACI," said Stephen Bradley, vice president of professional learning at Elsevier. "This is an ideal fit. Building on our successful programs in the built environment with the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES), we’re confident that we’ll be able to deliver high impact learning that will bring many tangible benefits to individuals and companies in the concrete industry."
